The twelfth chapter of the Darwin's Game ~Flag Game~ novel.
Summary[]
In a Flag Game, players vied for control of an area by placing and then defending their flag from other clans. If a clan already controlled an area, other clans would attempt to destroy it and place their own. In order to have a better chance of keeping their territory, clans made sure to place their flag in an easily defendable position. The reason the Sunset Ravens hadn't taken control of the southeastern Shibuya area was because they hadn't found a suitable building to place their flag in, though recently Ryuuji had managed to obtain a small building with an underground floor, and construction to fortify said building had finally finished a day before the next Flag Game.
At the Twin Head Shark clan building, Ryuuji and Kaname were finishing negotiations for a one month long non aggression pact with the clan leader Wadatsumi. Both sides agreed to the pact and set the penalty for breaking the agreement at 200 points. After they sealed the deal, Wadatsumi offered to treat them to a drink to celebrate their alliance, though the Ravens refused since they needed to prepare for the Flag Game the next day.
On their way out of the building, Ryuuji thought about how the Darwin's Game didn't necessarily advocate killing, as there was even a sentence in the FAQ that stated that the staff didn't recommend murder. A player could run until time ran out, or they could surrender; however, being able to take the other player's points if you killed them and fear of retaliation turned it into a death game. Ryuuji recalled that Rein had referred to it as the prisoner's dilemma and had also used the Nash equilibrium to explain her point. He felt that the creator of the Darwin's Game was laughing at them while urging them to be brave and try to trust others, and decided that whoever the creator was had a terrible personality. As they set out for the Ravens' base, Ryuuji thought of Wadatsumi and how he didn't trust him completely.
